West condems Myanmar junta

Western powers have circulated a draft statement on Myanmar to the U.N. Security Council, condemning repression by the junta.
The statement, drafted by the US, Britain and France, also demands the regime free political detainees and begin a dialogue with the opposition.
The draft came hours after a report to the 15-member council by U.N. special envoy Ibrahim Gambari, who warned the Myanmar government of the serious consequences of its actions.
